Peter Kolkay, bassoon
Bassoonist Peter Kolkay has been awarded the Avery Fisher Career Grant, the First Prize at the Concert Artists Guild International Competition, and the Carlos Surinach Prize from BMI. He is formerly a member of the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center’s CMS Two program. Mr. Kolkay serves on the faculty of the University of South Carolina, and is a member of the IRIS Orchestra and the South Carolina Philharmonic. As a soloist, he has appeared with the Rochester Philharmonic, Westschester Philharmonic, Chamber Orchestra Kremlin, and Green Bay Symphony, among others. Mr. Kolkay is a frequent performer at the festivals of Vail, Newport, Savannah, Cooperstown, and Bridgehampton. He holds a DMA from Yale University where he studied with Frank Morelli, a master’s degree from the Eastman School of Music, and a bachelor’s degree from Lawrence University in Appleton, Wisconsin.
